Maintaining control of your business!

This past weekend taught me a good lesson, as I watched for 24 hours as the snow fell and left its mark of 30 inches.  I realized  there are some things in life we have very little or no control and we just have to deal what is dealt to us. 

So, what do we have control?  Surprisingly, we do have control over much of our business success.  We are in control of when we start and stop each work day.   We have control of how many people we meet and speak with each day.  We have control over keeping good records of our clients and reaching out to them daily.  All these things are in our control and will make us more successful than imaginable. 

So, what is holding us back from taking action over the things we have control.  Yes, many of talk the talk, but very few actually walk the walk.  The old saying, “you can lead  a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink” is ever so true.  Then why is it many of us tend to lose control?  Because I am not you, I can’t answer that question?  Maybe you are one of the lucky few who do have the control, but in case you are not, here are a few suggestions you can use:

1.  Start your day with a purpose
2.  Have a plan who you are going to speak with
3.  Speak to at least 3 old clients every day
4.  Speak to at least 2 new clients every day
5.  Mail something to at least 3 old clients every day
6.  Mail something to at least 2 new clients every day
7.  Meet one on one with another discipline at least twice a week
8.  Put your old, new, and potential client list in some order
9.  At the end of the week, see how close you came to the above 8

I did some quick math and computed if you followed the simple  formula above you will  have 552 touches a year, not including the “just happened to come to you” touches. 

This is what I call CONTROL.

Do your senior clients like you?

If I were to ask you to take the likeability test, do you think you would pass?  

Do you recall wanting something really bad?  Maybe it was asking out your college sweetheart for your first date or maybe it was applying for that first job or trying to impress your boss with your know how?   Sometime in our lives we all have experienced situations  in  our lives where we had to be especially nice.  Why?  Because we knew if we used our charm, personality, and were extremely nice, more than likely, we would get what we wanted.  You also knew that your likeability had to be sincere and honest, otherwise you would be seen as disingenuous. 

Being liked by your senior clients is the lifeline of your business success.  Surely, senior clients are only going to proceed with a reverse mortgage if they really like you.  Why, because they don’t have to settle for you if you are not likeable.  Yes, there is someone waiting on the sidelines who is as nice or nicer than you, just waiting to take the business.  Evaluating your likeablity factor is a key to improving your relationship and lead nurturing.

What about others?   Yes, your colleagues and other business professionals want to be associated with some one they like.  Have you ever received a phone call from someone and said to yourself , “I’ll call them back later or maybe not at all.”  Most likely if you liked them, you will indeed call them back, but conversely, if you don’t like them, then most likely you will never call them back.

Take a minute to think what it is your senior client will like about you?   Next, think about what you could change about yourself to be more likable.  After this, think about someone you really like and write down the things that really make you like them.  Once done, this may be a good way to mirror and create your likability factor. 

Interesting, we all have a tendency to like people who like us.  Go figure!

The next move is up to you.  Yes, you have choices.  You can be upbeat, honest, fun to be with, confident, positive, attractive, thoughtful, interested, attentive, and well groomed; yes, it’s up to you.

 Go ahead make your list now.  It’s up to you if you  want to pass the likability test.    Toss out the old things you don’t like,  start your new lead nurturing that will have your clients  appreciating you and liking you!
